[Cosplay] Angelique

January 25, 2012 at 3:19 pm (cosplay(コスプレ))

A happy new year, everyone! How was 2011? I wish you have a nice year. Around my place, we had a very first snow yesterday.  Not I don’t like the cold, but I wish spring could come as soon as possible. Because I am a cosplayer, summer and winter are not good for me. Anyway, let’s begin my first entry in 2012.

If you think of any otome games, what would be coming up? Uta no Prince-sama, Heart no kuni no Alice, Vitamin X, Wand of Fortune, Miracle Train…it’s countless. In particular, we call any otome games from KOEI, Neoromance game [ネオロマンスゲーム] such as Harukanaru toki no naka de, Kin’ iro no Corda, or Angelique. You can abbreviate it ネオロマ [neoroma], and fangirls who follow those games are Neoromancer. Yes, I am.^^ My first cosplay is from Harutoki, and next I also cosplayed someone from Corda. However, I had never cosplayed anyone from this game, Angelique.

Oscar from Angelique

Angelique is actually the very first otome game in the history. This game was born in 1994, and there was no otome games before that even though bishoujo games were everywhere. In this game, the heroine is a schoolgirl who faces to the trial that decides the next queen in the universe. Needless to say, she is surrounded by several good-looking guys who help her. You can choose your favorite, enjoy dating, and pass the trial. I have played this game, but I must say this is the most complicated and difficult because those guys are moody and selfish. Normally, typical guys in the otome games are nice to the heroine. But the guys in Angelique often turn down even if you ask him to go out. Or else, he would forget about the promise you made and have fun with another girl. Whereas he helps you, he would do the same thing to another girl. Can you believe that? I used to get mad while I was playing this game.

At any rate,  I have a friend who really loves this game, yes we call those fangirls アンジェリーカー[Angeliquer]. She is a cosplayer who can make costumes herself. When I told her I am also a Neoromancer, she asked me to cosplay someone from Angelique. Even got me a costume? I was on it on the spot. The character she suggested me is this. He is オスカー[Oscar], the guardian of Fire. You know, there is at least one playboy(we say タラシ[tarashi]) in this kind of game. Yes he is. He always addresses the heroine お嬢ちゃん[ojou-chan] or Miss. I swear no guys say something like this. Well, he is something you see in the old American movie. But…for some reason I like him the most.

The costume she made was really great. I had never tried on such a handsome outfit. I just got a wig and styled it myself, and went to the photoshoot with my friend. There is very few Angelique cosplayers because this series is old. In particular, Oscar cosplayers are quite rare. I fall for something like that.

I am pretty sure you are going to be the good queen, ojou-chan.

Great cosplay as always!! By the way have you heard of Otome game called 月下繚乱ロマンス? I think you might like it, I’d love to see a cosplay from that series from you 😀

    • bangin said,

Who should I cosplay from this game? I think the character design is the same as Starry Sky, and I like the math teacher the most. And I want to cosplay someone from Hanayaka na waga ichizoku.

      • Hinano said,

For some reason I actually think you’d do a great cosplay for Kano Aoi (鹿野 葵). I didn’t like Reito sensei that much XD; Also have you heard, Hanayaka will be made into an anime soon.

Also there will be an anime for Arcana Famiglia – I think you could cosplay from that since it’s mostly just black suits 😀 My favorite character from that is Luca http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb351/kisscoma/Arcana%20Famiglia/snap023.png

      • bangin said,

        Hanayaka anime?! Really?
A lot of friends of mine strongly ask me to cosplay from Lucky Dog, though.

That’s some pretty impressive costume your friend’s made. Making clothes (or costumes) is one of the many skills that I completely lack, so I’m always in total awe when I see someone who can do it. I’m also in awe that you can walk around in heels, because that’s another skill that I lack : D Anyway, the cosplay is great, as always.

It actually made me think how unfortunate is the fact that no otome games are being released in Poland. It’s like Sahara for Japanofiles. That aside, have I ever mentioned how I love the way you write about various stuff? Well, this post made me remember this ^^ I’m never sure if I laugh in the right places, though… : )

    • bangin said,

Thank you very much. I like this costume, too. What I prepared was the wig and the white boots. I just styled this wig, that’s it.
Do you have any Japanese bookstores like Kinokuniya in Poland?

      • filipbrunelewski said,

I don’t think there are any specifically Japanese bookstores, at least none I know of. Sometimes you can get manga and/or anime in some general bookstores (but there isn’t many of them that was published in Polish, and rarely you can get imported English releases) and, in some major cities, in comic bookstores. But, as I said, it’s not much. And no otome games, wchich basically sucks.

  3. Hazuki said,

I’m so happy to see you dress up as Oscar! I would get mad too…lol – especially during time when the guardians choosing who they like the most.
My favorite character in Angelique is Randy…don’t you think he would make a great boyfriend?! LOL

    • bangin said,

Randy is a nice guy, isn’t he? But when I played a first go, Randy was on the rival’s side.

  4. tasukihoneybunny said,

Wonderful!!! The costume, photographs and the cosplayer are great!!!!

    Thanks for making my evening!!!

I wish they would release more otome games in english!! it is that or me trying to learn japanese…I keep trying and failing each time… 😦

Thank u again for this wonderful break!!!

    • bangin said,

      Thank you!
And I do hope they would release more otome games in English!
But how do you always play otome games, then?

  5. Miki Fang said,

Oh I think this one suits you well!! I quite like Angelique as well but I do admit it was extremely frustrating to start with.

    • Miki Fang said,

oh btw I also wanted to ask which series contacts are you using for this cosplay?

      • bangin said,

This is from the very first series of Angelique.

    • bangin said,

Those guys are too moody, and the heroine’s rival is so annoying. There is a time I wanted to give up this game.

  6. soyokaze said,

I was surprised that you know the Angelique series ^^ I’m only familiar with the first series though but the next ones are all out of reach to me @_@
I can really relate on the gameplay *laughs*

The costume was really well made, I think this is one of my favorite character that you cosplayed (is there such a term? /laughs) – Suefumi was a memorable one for me.

Anyway, I’m so glad that someone in the internet (aside from the Japanese speaking fans) knows about this series – because mostly they only know Neo Angelique because of the anime series.

    • bangin said,

Yes because I am a neoromancer. I have followed Harutoki, Corda, and Angelique. Well, you can say イチ推し[ichioshi]or お気に入り[okini’iri] to mean your favorite.^^

  7. Columbine said,

    Oh my, the heels!

  8. anon said,

Bangin, sorry for off-topic but I heard the majority of female otaku are fujoshis, is that true?

    • bangin said,

I don’t think so. I know a lot of female otaku who don’t like BL.

      • Rayshelon said,

of course like your web site but you have to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very trmbelusooe to tell the reality however I’ll definitely come back again.

  9. Hallie said,

Damn, I wish I could think of soetnhimg smart like that!
