[Cosplay] Here is Greenwood

greenwood

In fact, I have already cosplayed this series, but I wanted to do again because I bought a digital single lense camera. Come to think of it, I tend to cosplay another character right away once I cosplay someone. Though the costume is not that cheap! What a waste, I should cosplay the same character more. Why didn’t I consider having a photoshooting at a different spot? I’ve got to use my camera, haven’t I?

I wonder how many of you know this old shoujo manga, Here is Greenwood[ここはグリーンウッド]. I don’t think so many of you know this series, but this is one of the most popular shoujo comics in 1980’s. 年は聞くなよ、計算すんなよwAnd for some reason, there are quite a few male fans although it seemed to be rare that men read any shoujo stuff at that time. At any rate, I am cosplaying him in this entry.

tedsuka

He is Tedsuka Shinobu[手塚 忍] who is a head of the dormitory. Very clever and smart student, but so evil! Most of the classmates are scared of him because he is cold-blooded, and uses whatever he can use. Even the teachers can’t resist him because he holds their weak points. Actually, I didn’t intend to cosplay him, but a friend of mine suggested that I should do him. I like such a dark-hearted character like him because I don’t have to act. だって演じなくていいから超ラク^^

Please look at the images. See? Looks like very old, doesn’t it? Not like nostalgic, nor retro, but just old. You can say 昭和臭[Showa shu] if you were born 1964 onwards. 昭和[Showa] is the era name before the current one, 平成[Heisei], and then [shu] means such an odor. If you have been anime fans just for a couple of years, something like Here is Greenwood sure looks so old to you. When this anime was born, the era was Showa. Having said that, 昭和臭 is used to ridicule such an old-fashioned thing. Because of this, it doesn’t have to be Showa stuff.

Also, to mission something very old to someone else, or to brainwash with such a thing is called 昭和洗脳[Showa sen’nou]. 洗脳[sen’nou] means to brainwash. Yes, I sometimes cosplay someone from such an old series…because I am scheming 昭和洗脳!

To my surprise, this anime was broadcasted in America.

 だけど時々フッと思うことがある。普通に普通の人生なんてつまらないと言える人生がどんなものであるのかを。普通か…本当はそれが一番いい事なのかもしれないな。

 俺は…普通になりたい。君のように。

Mesmerised by your eyes too in the 2nd pic ^///^) I loved that manga and Shinobu is my fav character out of the 4 mains. After reading it, It made me want to stay in a hostel too XD

えーっ!Do you know this manga? This is very old! But I am quite happy even a young girl like you know this series. I like him the most, too. ^^

      • ponytale said,

Was the manga really that long ago? Guess I’m not that young anymore ^^;;; I only remember bits and pieces of the story now cos it has been a while since I last read it. tho I reread it many times when I first got the series. I should probably dig them out of the cabinet again. I also enjoyed the anime too. Hostel life in the manga was so fun and interesting XD

Ah, I had intended to watch this since way back when but never got around to it 😦

The art style reminds me a bit of Please Save My Earth, which is about the only show I’ve watched of that style/era I think… (I don’t think Oniisama e counts)

You look like you’ve gotten thinner though! Have you been eating properly?! (母さんかよ・・・)

    • bangin said,

Yes, it is a bit hard to get this manga or anime because this is very old. But this manga got re-editted(愛蔵版) so maybe you could get it at a secondhand bookstore if you were in Japan…

Oh I agree. Please Save My Earth, and Mirage of Blaze!

You’re right…I think I have gotten thinner than before because sometimes I miss my breakfast or lunch.

ponytale: This manga was born in 1980’s, but the live-action drama came out a few years ago. Hostel life thing is not that rare in shoujo or BL anime like Gakuen Heaven, or 卒業M. But as far as I am aware, Here is Greenwood is the first boarding school anime, maybe?

    • ponytale said,

Mmm I’m not sure… cos if you mention about boys boarding school manga, it would probably be the first that comes into my mind. Maybe the impression it left on me was very deep. I feel that Gakuen Heaven’s focus was directed more at the romance between the characters but Here is Greenwood is pure hostel fun and more about friendships (if my memory serves me right ^_^;;) Actually, I didn’t like the art style of the manga at first but it grew on me, thanks to the storyline 😛 and hmm you’re probably right about it being the first boarding school anime… there’s a live action too? Is it good? ah~ I haven’t seen 卒業M tho’

      • bangin said,

Yes! Here is Greenwood focuses on the friendships and their youthful days. And the live-action drama was aired years ago, not so long time ago. Of course, the actors are all ikemen like ikemen paradise. lol

I didn’t know about 卒業M, first I just watched 卒業 where several bishoujos show. After that, I learned there was an otome version.

  6. ponytale said,

I have to search your blog for the definition of ikemen XD

Ikemen paradise huh~ I’ll give the live-action version a look when I get the chance ^_^

    • bangin said,

      Ikemen means a handsome guy or a good-looking. 🙂

All the casts must be ikemen when an otome or a shoujo manga becomes a live-action thing!

I’ve brainwashed some people… “River’s Edge by Kyoko Okazaki was highly influential on the literary world in its day!”

But otakus are hesitant to read manga that has art… http://www.arttowermito.or.jp/life/jpg/kokazaki.jpg …that isn’t generic, current, or mainstream.

P.S. Cool pose in the second-to-last photo! Also, I love that you introduce us to new words even in your cosplay blogs. 🙂

    • bangin said,

Thank you. I have uploaded cosplaying photos too much, so I’ve got to put some words to introduce!
