[Intermission] 侘寂

January 29, 2009 at 3:22 am (cosplay(コスプレ))

Here ends my cosplay this month. These two weeks were very enjoyable. So much was going on, and I had a lot of experience in such a short term. I have no plan right now, so finally things settled.

After I finished Suefumi, I cosplayed one more character, that is, Hijikata Toshiro[土方十四郎] in Gintama[銀魂]. I think I have cosplayed him a couple of times, however, I cosplayed his occasional costume, 着流し[kinagashi]. Kinagashi is something like a kimono for men, but it is more simple and easy to put on. It really takes time for women to put on a kimono. If necessary, it needs someone’s help. You might think of [hakama] when it comes down to men’s traditional clothes. Well, like Zetsubo-sensei. Here you can see one more men’s Japanese traditional one…that is 着流し.

Hijikata is a the lieutenant of Shinsengumi, so he usually wears the uniform. But when he is off, he wears a kinagashi. I cosplayed it, remember I told you that real fans would like to complete all the costumes of the character they love? Yes, I love Hijikata! I know my place, but sometimes I wish I could be cool like him. At best, the otaku Hijikata should be suitable for me. lol

We spent much time for Suefumi, so there was not much time left because the park closed so soon. But we had a beautiful sunset, now sunset time is really short. Maybe it only lasts 30 minutes or so…don’t you think it is kind of sad, huh? But in such a ephemeral moment, there is a man wearing a kinagashi…oh, this is something like one of the Japanese virtue, 侘寂[wabi sabi]? こんなコスプレも楽しいな^^

Hijikata is convenient to me because he might be in the late 20’s? I think I can cosplay after I am 30! I need to look for a character like him for my cosplay life.

That’s a great character for you! You look very cool in a 着流し[kinagashi]. I like how you capture his surly look.

This character is still easy to act, holding a cigarette, and trying to be cool.
It is good that sometimes I wear such a traditional clothes!

In Japan, people can wear traditional clothing such as Zetsubo-sensei, right? I wish you could do that in Germany and not look ridiculous. You can only wear dirndl at Oktoberfest!

You said: “Hijikata is convenient to me because he might be in the late 20’s?”

Saying “the 20’s” would mean “a time during the 1920’s”. It would be more correct to say “in HIS late 20’s” or “MY late 20’s” if you are talking about somebody’s age. Isn’t that silly?

Wow. If you grew your hair out a little more you’d look just like him. And by the way I loooooove Gintama! I’ve never seen the show. Is it as good as the comics?

  6. bangin said,

子犬: I like such a ethnic costume, too. I want to be like a Bohemian!^^ WTF

goodyfun: Oh that’s right. That is what I mean. I didn’t know there are some people who watch Gintama because this seems to be less popular overseas. Well I actually prefer the comics because some of the nice jokes get cut in the anime.

  7. goodyfun said,

Gintama has a loyal following overseas by people who understand and are familiar with Japanese humor. These fans have trouble understanding how it isn’t more popular. It is because no matter how good something is, if the style doesn’t translate well somewhere else, or seems too new it will have trouble getting picked up by a bigger audience.

In contrast, sometimes something new will sometimes get attention for being different, even if it is misunderstood at first.

Gintama has a lot of in-joke humor, I can guess it is pretty hard to translate. Even if it is well done, it is diffucult to understand.

Excuse me bangin-san, I have this overwhelming urge to take away that cig and tie a fake ponytail at the back of your head. You’d look so much like Kagetora from Mirage. ^_^

I should stop now b4 I start to sound creepy. If I hadn’t already 😛

    • bangin said,

Oh yes, Kagetora! His hair is long, isn’t it? I want cosplay other versions of Takaya or Naoe!

    Nice, handsome character match.
However, holding the cigarette in the middle of your mouth shows that you are not a real smoker!
    Make being bad look good!

    • bangin said,

Good point. Yes, I have never been a smoker!
