A Happy New Year, everyone! So how was 2008? I really enjoyed together with you, so I am going to this year, too. Of course, I will keep cosplaying as well.
So the first word to introduce this year is this, 2.5次元[ni ten go jigen]. As you may know, we say 2次元[nijigen] to mean anime, manga, video games, or such a fictious thing, and 3次元[sanjigen] to mean real people or things. Having said that, it is becoming common to say 2.5次元[ni ten go jigen] to mean the certain things.
The answer is, yes, something that depicts 2D things in 3D. It’s like it exists between 2D and 3D, so that is why we say 2.5次元. A good example is a figure. A figure of the certain anime character which comes from 2D exists in the real world. So we can say 2.5次元. If it is a full-length figure, it could be realer, so closer to 2.5次元. Or else, it may mean to make an anime into a live-action, to make a live-action into an anime series.
However, there is one more similar word to it, 半ナマ[han-nama] which is an abbreviation of 半分ナマモノ[hanbun namamono]. ナマモノ[namamono] means a fan-made boys’ love which real actors or idols star in. If I give you an example, it could be Akanishi x Kamenashi(the most common pairing from KAT-TUN). 亀梨ｘ赤西かもしれないけど、そこは触れないでね＾＾But if these guys play a certain anime character, and fans create a doujinshi for it, it is going to be 半ナマ[han-nama]. Does it make any sense? To be more simple, please think of some musicals which are based on anime. In this case, the most typical one is Prince of Tennis[テニミュ]. A lot of handsome actors shall play their own part on the stage altogther. Yes, they are acting 2D characters, it’s like those characters are coming out from the anime. Of course, the fans create such a BL doujishi. Although the pairing is Tedsuka x Fuji, actually it could cast each actor who plays the part respectively. Come to think of it, it is not uncommon that such a musical comes out like 学園ヘブン[gakuen heaven]. It sure proves how much fangirls love 半ナマ[han-nama]. However, remember 半ナマ does not mean a figure since ナマ[nama] means a real person.
If that’s the case, cosplaying also counts as 2.5次元 because it is to depict 2D characters in 3D. Oh no, I am wandering between between 2D and 3D, but now I got it. The space I place myself is here, 2.5次元.^^
