アキバ体型[akiba taikei]

October 4, 2007 at 6:33 am (otaku word, slang)

If you picture most akibakeis on your mind, what are they like? They are wearing glasses and too conservative clothes, and messy hair, white skin…something like that? Just like the most stereotyped one, 電車男[densha otoko]? What about his figure? Yes, if he is extremely fat, he would be labelled as アキバ体型[akiba taikei, “Akiba figure”].

Having said that, I really wonder if a very skinny otaku counts as アキバ体型, but as far as I know, the answer is no. Speaking of a nerd, most people could imagine his figure would be either very fat(such as 長岡芳樹[Yoshiki Nagaoka in Doukyusei 2] or very skinny(such as 宅八郎[Taku Hachiro, a real figure otaku]) , couldn’t they?

However, those fat otakus seem to be highlighted more than skinny those because here is a spin-off of アキバ体型 which points out such fat otakus…That is オタボリック症候群[otabolic shoukougun]. Well, this term stems from the serious disease among middle aged men, メタボリック症候群[Metabolic syndrome] and puns upon it…At any rate, in Japan this syndrome has been remarkable lately so most people who are over 30 get to be aware of it. I am not pretty sure who made up this funny pun, but the fact that such a spin-off has come out could prove that fat otakus are more stereotyped objects of “akibakei”?

Oh no, I should be aware of オタボリック, too. Come to think of it, most of my friends go to gym…

Haha, I don’t see as many fat fujoshis as fat akibakeis. Actually, when I walk around Otome Road, I don’t see fat girls that much…whereas I see more in Akihabara.

I think female otakus do care about their looking more than akibakeis do. I am such an otomen that I do a bit, too. 🙂

It’s funny but the first thing that popped into my mind when you mention otaku is that big back pack. ^^

I think fat j-girls are rare in any case… it’s not that easy to get fat with all the walking you have to do in Japan… And I think girls will watch how they look in Japan, no matter what their secret reading tastes are. 🙂 In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fat female ita-reiya in Japan, but I’ve seen plenty of them here.

I’m glad otomen take care of themselves… A lot of men in Japan takes really good care of themselves, some even go as far as putting on skin care products or even make-up daily. You guys can change how the world sees otaku! Soon otas will own the best of all worlds, and many more fujoshi will fall for bangin-dono. ^^

Dear GollumGood to get that news about your Dad being in the 26th. My Dad went to Eygypt and fought there for some time before moving to Italy. He was in Barri at the close of the war. He The war left a big impression on him and affected the lives of so many on their return. That's another story, a long one.I leave in a couple of hours and i will have an enjoyable trip back. As always there is a disaster waiting. I had a lovely trip by Intercity bus from Timaru to Ch Ch yesterday with my boy. I love travelling by bus as it is a chance to talk to peoBCe.lheerspob

I’m agree with avplaya, people in japan loves to walk right? you just have to control what you eat properly and you don’t need to go to the gym. I think the reason of why alot of otaku get fat is because they spend to much time in their room.
If otaku could look cool like Kousaka in Genshiken the otaku image won’t be that bad anyomore ^^

Avplaya-san: In Shibuya, there are a bunch of young men who even do make-up. If there’s a word, akiba-kei, there has to be shibuya-kei. Mostly, some chains are hunged from the belt with tight jeans and sharp boots. In other words, we say ギャル男(gyaruo). I don’t have to be like a gyaruo, but I don’t forget to take care of myself so that nobody can tell the real me. In Japan, people tend to judge others by looking.

Neohybrid_kai: Ah, Kousaka! Yes, in that case, nobody would say otakus are nerds. ^^ Or else, Yamazaki-kun or Sato-kun in NHK ni youkoso are fine, too. ^^

w-dono: I’ve got to try not to be a hikikomori! (((;゜д゜)))

Khursten: Wouldn’t the technical term for an overweight fujoshi be 腐豚?
