キモイ同盟[kimoi doumei]

August 15, 2007 at 3:05 am (doujin(同人), otaku word)

When I heard of it for the first time, I couldn’t stop laughing though I had no idea what this term means…XD Well, キモイ[kimoi] is an abbreviation of 気持ち悪い[kimochiwarui], which means hideous, grotesque, annoying, unpleasant, uncomfortable, and so on. 同盟[doumei] means an union or an alliance…So literally, this means a brigade(I wanted to use brigade after SOS brigade ;^^) for enthusiastic fans of hideous characters.

At any rate, these brigades are made by enthusiastic fans(cult?) of a certain character(mostly male characters) from anime, manga or whatsover, for fans. The important thing is that those fans love such hideous characters for some reason. This “hideous” does not even necessarily mean he is not good-looking, but extremely geeky, narcissistic, or hentai(perverted). So speaking of those characters who are supported by キモイ同盟, I shall mention Light Yagami, L(Death Note, see above images), Yuushi Oshitari(Prince of Tennis, see below image), Takaya Abe(Ookiku furikabutte, see below image. But in his case, it is written as キモベ同盟[kimobe doumei]. I guess it puns upon his last name) and so on. No matter how narcissistic he is, no matter how hentai taste he has, she can’t help but loving him…Yes, in order to meet someone who has the same taste, and share it, they unite as a キモイ同盟. So they can pep themselves up each other…

If there’s no fan of your favorite character around you, and if he is not much popular because he is such a hentai, all you have to do is either open up or go to a キモイ同盟. You can find your alliances there.  🙂

By the way, I just took a quick look at the certain キモイ同盟 for Light Yagami a while ago. And the first passage starts with ニア(Near; L’s heir)死ね死ね死ね死ね死ね死ね…[Near, die die die die die die] it seems to last forever. ガクガク(((;゜д゜)))ブルブル It sounds like a real Kira-cult, doesn’t it?

I guess you can call this キモイ萌え?wwww

Isn’t technically Light a 美少年 as well? He certaiinly doesn’t look hedious. In the US some girls tend to love “bad boys”, so this is really the same thing.

Yes, we could. Or else, キモキャラ萌え. www

Let’s see, I think Light can be classified into many types. Of course 美少年, and ヒール系, 知能犯系(chinouhan-kei, “clever criminal”), and so on.

A friend of mine told me there’s an old proverb in Chinese, 男人不壊 女人不愛. I forgot the pronounciation, but this means, “Unless he is evil, she never loves him” or something like that.

It sounds like this is so common everywhere, doesn’t it?

lol. I can’t help but enjoy this! I am a big fan of キモイキャラ because I think they’re quite unique. ❤ ❤ And they are often funny too!

    (wears her キモイ同盟bandana!)

Yes, キモイキャラ is always so funny. And they are very important to make a story more interesting. It is said that L is キモカワ(an abbreviation of キモくてカワイイ, “geeky but cute). I have seen about 10 of L cosplayers sitting near the stairway altogether at the event. They could be a キモイ同盟 for L. (;゜д゜)

  5. Avplaya said,

    Now a キモイ同盟 for L would only be based on his looks I guess.. Anyone think he is cute must have… issues… ^^;

BTW, that proverb is pronounced “Nan Ren Bu Huai, Nu Ren Bu Ai”.

Wow, you speak Chinese, Avplaya-sama? Thank you for telling me this! ^^

Ahahaha, I laughed so hard when I read キモベ同盟 XDD
I didn’t think Abe could be a kimoi character, but he is indeed narcisistic XDD
But reading “kimobe” really looks like his fans are making fun of themselves and…LOL, it must be fun 😄
Though such gatherings of crazy fans (like the Light Yagami ones you described) are a bit too creepy for me ^^”

bi-san, I didn’t think Abe should be kimoi either. He’s annoying as hell but I don’t think people hate him like they would hate Laito. But I guess any negative, non-hero character can be considered a kimoi-chara.

  9. bi said,

    I agree with you, Avplaya-san 🙂
I think that, like any slang word, キモイ has a larger range of possible meanings compared to the original 気持ち悪い, hasn’t it?

bi: You’re right, nowadays people often use キモイ in many ways. Not only to describe something hideous looking and grotesque looks, but narcisistic or annoying behavior, thoughts…anything. 🙂
Light Yagami says like 僕は新世界の神となる(I will be the God of the New World), and his fans say like, “OMG, how キモイ thought he has…!” :))

Avplaya-san: Yes, negative. Even if he is such a bishounen, he could be a kiomi-chara so long as he has a strongly negative personality. I wonder if Arima-kun(His and Her circumstance) is a kimoi-chara.

  11. bi said,

Arima-kun is a very good example of a negative character!
I wonder if that kind of negativity can be labeled as “kimoi”, too…
Though maybe his being negative is too much on the personal side? I thought a kimoi-chara had to be “nasty” to others in some way.

  12. bangin said,

Yes, I think either way could be labeled as kimoi. Arima-kun has a darker side in himself, and he plans to revenge on people who insulted and neglected him. Though he is nice to everybody else, he could be qualified as a kimoi-chara. 🙂

I see… Thanks a lot for all the explanations!
I’m learning a lot of new things thanks to your blog (^_^).
