廃墟萌え[haikyo-moe]

February 5, 2011 at 1:53 pm (cosplay(コスプレ), otaku word)

Moe has no shape. If you feel hot for something, whatever it is, it might be moe, I think. I already mentioned 工場萌え[koujou-moe] here. Actually a friend of mine is a big fan of 工場萌え. You might be surprised to hear so many plant fans are actually women. Why do they feel romantic towards plants? In fact, there is even one-day tour for plant maniacs. Yes, when it gets dark, plants start to light up. It looks so beautiful. My cosplay friend is so into plants that she had a photoshooting in front of the plant. She showed some of the photos, and they all look fantastic.

Come to think of it, there are cosplay events at the plant as well. Needless to say, those fans go and cosplay at such an event. Those cosplayers do such as Evangelion, Black Lagoon, Darker than Black or Togainu no Chi. So did I. However, if the plant is not alive, I mean, if it’s abandoned it would be cooler, wouldn’t it? There is no people insinde, the walls are decayed, and a cloud of dust fills the air. Looks like a ghost appears. Yes, that is 廃墟[haikyo] or devastation. Of course, there are even haikyo maniacs. Speaking of haikyo, I have been to the jail named Alcatraz in San Fransisco. I just saw the outlook from the sea, though. I regret that I didn’t go inside. It is a popular sightseeing spot since it was closed in 1963. There’s even a film named Escape from Alcatraz, you should watch. Oh I shouldn’t forget Castle in the Sky, should I?

A while ago, I got an e-mail from a man named Muen Kashi[夢煙夏士]. He is a haikyo maniac, and loves to take photos of haikyo. He actually asked me to take my cosplays because he wanted to challenge to take cosplayers at the devastation. I was on it, so went to the appointed place. It was so far away as it took four hours in total. First two hours were train, and the rest was his car. The devastation we arrived was called Block Art. The place is confidential. According to him, even among haikyo maniacs, it shouldn’t be unveiled. He said haikyo is alive because we never know how long the devastation could survive. Today we had a photoshooting here, but tomorrow we might not be able to. Because it might be completely demolished, that’s why. So chance is only one time…

He chose two characters from my cosplays, Heiwajima Shizuo from Durarara!! and Nagisa Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. When I got inside, it chilled my spine because it was a totally different space. Can I say like 閉鎖空間[heisa kuukan]? It’s like a real RPG! Muen Kashi kindly escorted me inside because there are a lot of danger at haikyo.

Well…I have no words to describe how mysterious it was, but…we had fun, that’s all I can say now. Haikyo-moe is very deep.

Series: Durarara!!

Character: Heiwajima Shizuo [平和島静雄]

Amazing grace, how sweet that sounds

That saved a wreck like me…

I was once lost, but now I’m found

Was blind but now I see…

Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion [新世紀エヴァンゲリオン]

Character: Nagisa Kaworu [渚カヲル]

Cosplayer: bangin

Photographer: Muen Kashi [夢煙夏士]

I’m getting “Gackt vibes” from bangin-san’s Hewajima Shizuo, lol.

Faves are #1, #3 (Shizuo) and the second last (Kaworu) picture.

I think Casshern the movie had a lot of these abandoned plants/ building scenes.

      Wasurenaikara~♪
      I don’t deserve it, Gackt is a bishounen!^^

Yes Casshern has a lot of haikyo. Final Fantasy series also has.

A cute guy in the devastated surroundings – is there any name for such moe, I wonder..? Beacause I started to think I have a moe like that, when I saw these photos ^^ Especially Kaworu cosplay is extremly cute /////
    Shizuchan standing by that “yandere” graffiti is hilarious, it seriously made my day :}

    • bangin said,

Yep someone scribbled yandere on the wall. Actually, tsundere was also drawn ahead of yandere.
I don’t think there is a word you wonder. Haikyo-moe is fine.

      • Filip said,

Was this first photo of Shizuo intentionally taken by that graffiti? Because it somehow fits his image ^^
I’m not sure if Haikyo-moe is the case. Maybe just my fangirlism of your cosplays ////

I must say it: you’re really improving as a cosplayer. It’s not just the atmosphere of the surroundings (which, I agree, is definitely suited for RPG…) but I got the feeling your Kaworu has got now this… idk… 17th-angels-vibe? :D
And you are a perfect fit for Shizuo.

    • bangin said,

      Thank you very much!
I am very happy that I could cosplayed Shizuo and Kaworu because this place was so perfect.
      I needed Izaya and Shinji-kun!

      • polar said,

Your Izaya from the previous cosplay at Ikebukuro could be a well-matched Shinji! It’s not like he isn’t a good Izaya, but somehow he has that innocent kind of look not a ominous one :)

  6. bangin said,

Oh really? Then I will tell my Izaya!

  7. nattao said,

    hi!
    ever been to Gunkanjima?
i think it’s alot cooler than Alcatraz.

and thanks for all the references!

    • bangin said,

Oh no! Do you know Gunkanjima?
No I have never been to, but the photographer Muen Kashi has been.
Among haikyo maniacs, Gunkanjima is so popular that it’s a must-go spot.

  8. bangin said,

Filip: Muen Kashi chose Shizuo because there is this graffiti. He thinks it fits Shizuo.

    • Filip said,

Well, I think so too. That’s really nice one ^^

  9. kloadheart said,

    so… kyaa~~!!! <33
luv how the errie setting creates a nice setting for the awesome characters [:

    • kloadheart said,

and you didnt go inside of alcatraz? D:
dude you missed a chance of pure fear and awesomeness!!!
there’s a lot of paranormal activities in there so i wouldnt risk taking a photoshoot .__.”
i was sooo scared wen i was inside… there was this… really malicious feeling that i didnt like but i managed to get a look aroudn the whole prison [:
and listened to a few tales…

      • bangin said,

It was when I was 21 or so.
The quick tour for Alcatraz was too popular to get a ticket.
But I could have a chance to see the outlook from the sea as we got on the cruiser.
Well yes, I wanted to see inside!
